Slumdog millionaire, the awards, we the Indians, etc.

22nd February 2009, the night at Kodak studio- Los Angeles was almost like a Filmfare awards distribution function in India!!!
- Because there was “Slumdog millionaire” – the Indian movie. Congrats to the “Slumdog millionaire” team!!!

Controversies:

Remind the time when “The white tiger” of Mr. Aravinda Adiga won the booker prize.
Nothing is exceptional to controversies. But what hurts the most is when you become too much extrovert about your own problem, which the third person cannot solve!

Kannada daily “Vijaya Karnataka” had published an article named “BHARATHAVANNU BAYYIRI; BOOKER PADEYIRI” -when “the white tiger” had got the Booker. We are well opened about problems. But we feel shy to show the world the achievements of ours! Moreover, we see people around who have become very popular just because they hate their own culture/ .*isms and support the others!

Same is the case in “Slumdog millionaire.” Typical India is highlighted. As far as editing, cinematography, sound editing, sound mixing, adapted screenplay –are concerned, it’s really very good. If you see the work of a director just in the narrower sense, it’s also very good. But, think how the movie re-directs the world’s stand-point towards India?

You may agree or disagree. But I will tell you some of my observations happening around:
• Money ‘catalyses’ love.
• If a common man like “Dhirubhai Ambani” could give jobs to lakhs of employees, there is an equal probability of a slum boy becoming a millionaire.
• If your neighbor/colleague wins an award, the probability that you start working to win the same award is more!

And, importantly, if a movie like “Slumdog millionaire” can make an Oscar award distribution ceremony as if it were a Filmfare ward function, the probability that another movie hating the nation getting released is more!!!

What do you say?

Rightly said Madhu.. Its seriously getting on my nerves when Indians celebrate the victory of Danny Boyle..

Its a great great achievement by Rahman and other Indian music technicians. But as a movie, it sucked..

There were many gud movies competing this year for oscars..i haven't seen them all but 'the dark knight' movie was too good .It was totally perfect..!Even 'the curious case of benjamin button' was good.
slumdog is nowhere near these two films..They shouldn't have insulted Christopher Noolan like this! I have no idea what lobbies were made so that this movie got awards!

Good one. We,Indians are "NirabhimaanigaLu". Our directrs have too showcased the typical Indian slum, to quote- salaam bombay, deveri n so on. I seriously wonder why didn't they make into the oscars!!!

Good blog lo.. :)
I don know why we make so much of oscars...Its just an academy award given by AMPAS which has majority of americans.
Our Roja songs (or even Dil se) were far better than slum dog music...
But in this 'dog' mania we forgot our own Taare Zameen Par :( Its music, story n even acting was good.
But hey guys lets leave *scars to dogs n watch our own movies :)
